Individual Safe Rooms/Storm Shelters
This funding is provided through the Hazard Mitigation Grant Program administered through the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA)

  • Must be an owner-occupied primary residence
  • 75% federal funding/25% local match
  • The maximum federal funding is $4,000 or 75%, whichever is less, per site
  • Reimbursement grant (You make the purchase and file for reimbursement)
  • All shelters must have:
    • Stamped Safe Room Unit Drawings
    • Professional Engineering Certification (Licensed in the State of Alabama)
    • Attest of meeting or exceeding FEMA 320 standards
  • Any work started before funding cannot be reimbursed.

  • Completed worksheets are due to the Cullman County Economic Development Office by July 15, 2011, delivered in person or by certified mail.The Deadline for submission has been extended by FEMA. Completed worksheets are now due in the CCED office no later than 3 PM on Sept. 30, 2011.
